Starting locs is a journey and it takes commitment. This is not a process that can be rushed and if you are impatient, this is probably not the service for you.
Below you will find helpful information that may answer some of the questions you may have prior to making this commitment.
What type of locs do you want?
Traditional locs
Traditional locs are typically started with comb twist in the form of coils. You hair needs to be at least 2 to 3 inches to get started. This is my recommended technique for starting locs.
Two-Strand Twist Locs
Locs are started with two-strand twists. You hair needs to be at least 3 to 4 inches to start with this technique. It is to be noted that it takes a while for the two strand twist ridges (hair pattern) to disappear during the locing process.
What type of partings do you want?
You may chose from box or square partings, diamond partings or a neat but un-uniformed partings.
What size locs do you want?
You may have a preference for the size of locs you would like, however your sizing is mostly determined by your density of hair.(thickness) For example, if you have thinner hair your locs may need to be larger.
How often should you get loc maintenance?
When your locs are in the beginning stages you should get your hair re-twisted every two to three weeks.
How do I maintain my hair at home?
- DO NOT WASH OR GET HAIR WET!!
- Tie hair down at night with a silk or satin scarf or du-rag. A bonnet is not recommended.
- Spray or apply Anew You oil to hair daily. It is recommended to purchase products from salon that are used by our stylists. This ensures you are using top quality products that will not cause build up in your locs.
